Salary history ban
A rule that stops employers from asking about or relying on a candidate's past pay.
Salary history bans prohibit employers from asking candidates what they earned before, or from using that information to set pay. They are separate from posting requirements but often appear in the same laws.
Application forms and recruiter scripts are where these bans are most often broken.
